Here is a selected archive, made up mostly of pieces I wrote for the Guardian, with the odd piece for the Believer and the New York Times. My favourite interviews have been largely with writers: the wonderful Eric Carle, Maurice Sendak, who broke my heart; with legends – Elaine Stritch on top form, Minnelli, ditto, and an irresistible Clint Eastwood. And from a million years ago, three of the encounters I enjoyed more than most: Muriel Spark, at her haughty best, a furiously indignant Jeanne Moreau and, for sheer oddness of experience, the Duchess of Cornwall, Camilla Parker Bowles. (Although, in his way, Hasselhoff was right up there).
